Assignment >
This was a story about the proposed renovation and rehabilitation of Washington D.C.'s Anacostia river front. The design was deadline-driven and relied heavily on cartography, contributed art and file photos.

For this project, I was a bit like a one-man art department. With the editor, I came up with the concept of showing the story as an illustrated map on the magazine's center spread. On the cover, I simplified and ghosted the interior map while highlighting the artist's conceptions of future projects. I feel the cover has an interesting mirror-like balance on the diagonal and a wonderful color harmony. I am also pleased with the headline that I wrote, a turn of phrase that pulls together the literal movement of the design and the deeper meaning of the story.
